Online Tutoring in the UAE: A Parent's Guide for 2026 (Costs, Permits and How to Choose)

By Published Last updated 8 min read

Key takeaways

For online tutoring in the UAE in 2026, parents should choose a tutor who has taught their child's exact board (Cambridge, Edexcel, IB or FBISE), teaches in Gulf time, follows the UAE's tutoring rules and publishes costs up front. Published one-to-one rates for IGCSE and A Level run from about AED 100 to AED 376 an hour; ours start at AED 110 per 60-minute class.

  • Individual tutors in the UAE can get a free private teacher work permit from MOHRE and the Ministry of Education, valid for two years.
  • Match the board and syllabus code first, such as Cambridge 0580 or Edexcel 4MA1, then compare two or three tutors in trial classes.
  • Cambridge awarded June 2026 IGCSE and A Level grades in the UAE through a portfolio of evidence.
  • Pakistani schools in the UAE prepare students for FBISE exams at overseas centres.
  • Pakistan is only one hour ahead of the UAE, so tutors there can teach after school without late nights.

How do you choose the best online tutor in the UAE?

The best online tutor for a student in the UAE is the one who has taught your child's exact board and syllabus, teaches at times that work in Gulf Standard Time, publishes fees in AED and lets you try a class first. The UAE has one of the widest school mixes in the world, so "best" depends on the curriculum: a Dubai IB student, a Sharjah FBISE student and an Abu Dhabi student resitting Edexcel Maths all need different specialists.

Five checks, in order:

  1. Board and syllabus code. Find it on the statement of entry or the school's subject list, such as Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580, Edexcel International GCSE 4MA1, IB Mathematics: analysis and approaches HL, or FBISE SSC Physics.
  2. Evidence of expertise. Look for a named tutor profile with a degree, institution and years teaching that syllabus. Be cautious of ratings or results you cannot verify.
  3. Gulf timings. The UAE is on UTC+4 with no daylight saving; ask for the class time in writing, and check Ramadan arrangements.
  4. Published fees and policies. Price in AED, class length, missed-class rules and any registration fee.
  5. A trial class. Book trials with two or three tutors on the same topic, then ask your child which explanation they could repeat.

Our checklist for choosing an online O Level or A Level tutor goes into each step.

How much does an online tutor cost in the UAE?

Published one-to-one rates for online IGCSE and A Level tutoring in the UAE run from about AED 100 to AED 376 an hour, based on the ranges tutoring companies publish. Premium in-person tutors in Dubai charge more.

Do tutors need a permit in the UAE?

Individual private tutors in the UAE can apply for a free private teacher work permit, introduced in 2023 by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) to regulate private tutoring outside formal institutions, Gulf News reports. The permit is valid for two years, covers online and in-person lessons, and is open to school teachers, employees, unemployed people, university students and students aged 15 to 18.

If you hire an individual tutor in the UAE, it is reasonable to ask whether they hold the permit. GradeUp International is an online academy whose tutors teach from Pakistan; we never send tutors to homes in the UAE.

Which curricula do UAE students need tutors for?

UAE students mostly need tutors for British (IGCSE, GCSE and A Level), IB, American (AP and SAT), Indian or Pakistani (FBISE) curricula, because most expatriate children attend private schools regulated by KHDA in Dubai, ADEK in Abu Dhabi or SPEA in Sharjah.

Online or home tutor in Dubai?

For most secondary students, a well-matched online tutor works as well as a home tutor, avoids another drive after school, and widens the choice of specialists beyond whoever lives nearby. A home tutor can suit younger children who need someone in the room. Our comparison of online tuition vs home tuition covers the trade-offs.

Questions to ask before you pay

Ask every tutor or academy the same questions, in writing:

  • Which board and syllabus codes have you taught, and for how many years?
  • Who exactly will teach my child, and can I see their profile?
  • What time will classes be in UAE time, and what happens in Ramadan?
  • What are the fees in AED, the class length and the policy for missed classes?
  • How will you report progress, and can I join lessons?
  • Which platform do you teach on, and will all contact go through it rather than a personal number?

At GradeUp International, every class is taught by a named subject expert, fees are published in AED, parents can join any lesson, and the first class is free. See online tutors in the UAE for class times and fees.
