Which A Level boards do schools in the UAE use?

  • Cambridge International AS & A Level

Graded A* to E at A Level and a to e at AS. Students can take AS in Year 12 and complete the A Level in Year 13, or sit everything at the end. Cambridge listed the UAE among the countries where June 2026 AS & A Level grades were awarded through a portfolio of evidence.

  • Pearson Edexcel International A Level (IAL)

A modular qualification with unit exams, so students can bank units and resit individual papers in later series. Some UAE schools use Edexcel IAL for Maths and the sciences. Unit codes and paper styles differ from Cambridge, so we match tutors to the board.

Cambridge June seriesThe main series for UAE schools. For June 2026, Cambridge awarded AS & A Level grades in the UAE through a portfolio of evidence, and results were released on 11 August 2026.
Cambridge November seriesUsed for resits and by private candidates. Cambridge AS & A Level results for November 2026 are due on 7 January 2027.
Pearson Edexcel International A LevelUnit exams run in several series a year, including January, May/June and October. In 2026 Pearson published contingency arrangements for students affected by the conflict in the Middle East, so check with your school which series apply.

Where do students in the UAE sit A Level exams?

Most A Level students in the UAE sit exams at their own school. Confirm AS and A Level entries, unit resits and practical endorsements with the school's exams officer at the start of each year.

Private candidates can register for Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel and OxfordAQA exams through the British Council in the UAE, usually for the May/June and October/November series. Registration closes months before each series, so check its current deadlines and fees first.

Some A Level science papers include practical components that not every centre offers to private candidates. Check the syllabus before choosing a private entry.

How were June 2026 A Level exams handled in the UAE?

Cambridge International confirmed that, for the June 2026 series, AS & A Level grades in the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar would be awarded through a portfolio of evidence instead of written exams, with results on 11 August 2026. Pearson published separate contingency arrangements for its International A Level students in the region.

For Year 12 and Year 13 students now, school assessments and mocks matter twice over: as evidence if a series is disrupted, and for predicted grades on university applications. We plan tutoring around each school's mock dates as well as full past-paper practice.

Which A Level subjects do UAE students ask us for most?

Mathematics (Cambridge 9709 or Edexcel IAL), Physics, Chemistry and Biology are the most requested, because they are the biggest step up from IGCSE and are required for engineering and medicine. Economics, Business and Accounting are popular for business and finance degrees. Each tutor teaches a small number of subjects they have taught for years, matched by board and syllabus.
