Online Tuition for Pakistani Students in the Gulf: FBISE, O Level and A Level (2026 Guide)
By Shahzada Nafees Ur RehmanPublished Last updated 8 min read
Key takeaways
Pakistani students in the Gulf usually follow either the Federal Board (FBISE) Matric and FSc route at a Pakistani school, or Cambridge O Level and A Level. FBISE runs exam centres at overseas institutions, with 2026 SSC date sheets for the UAE, Kuwait and Bahrain. Online tutors in Pakistan teach both routes, one to two hours ahead of Gulf time.
- FBISE announced 2026 SSC results on 29 July and HSSC results on 9 September 2026.
- FBISE certificates need no IBCC equivalence in Pakistan; O Level and A Level results do.
- IBCC asks O Level students who studied abroad for five subjects (English, Maths and three electives), not eight.
- Pakistan is one hour ahead of the UAE and Oman, and two hours ahead of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain.
- Choose a tutor for the exact board: FBISE papers and Cambridge papers are marked very differently.

Which curriculum do Pakistani students in the Gulf follow?
Pakistani students in the Gulf usually follow one of two routes: the Federal Board (FBISE) Matric (SSC) and FSc (HSSC) route at a Pakistani school, or Cambridge O Level and A Level, often in the Cambridge wing of the same school. A smaller number attend British, American or IB schools.
Many Pakistani schools in the region run both routes side by side. In Doha, for example, Pakistan International School Qatar and Pak Shamaa School prepare students for FBISE exams and also offer Cambridge classes, according to school directory listings. The route your child is on decides which tutor you need, because the two systems are taught and marked very differently.
| FBISE Matric and FSc | Cambridge O Level and A Level | |
|---|---|---|
| Awarding body | Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Islamabad | Cambridge International Education |
| Exams | One annual exam a year per part, plus supplementary exams | June and November series |
| Results | Marks and grades; 2026 SSC results on 29 July, HSSC on 9 September | Letter grades; June results in August, November results in January |
| Use in Pakistan | Used directly | Needs IBCC equivalence |
| Typical next step | FSc, then MDCAT or engineering entry tests | A Level, then university at home or abroad |
How do FBISE exams work for students abroad?
FBISE examines Pakistani students abroad through examination centres it establishes at overseas institutions, usually Pakistani schools. The board publishes separate date sheets, roll number slips and notices for these overseas centres on its website.
For the SSC 1st Annual Examination 2026, FBISE published an overseas date sheet and roll number slips for centres in the UAE, Kuwait and Bahrain, together with a notice on conducting exams abroad during the regional uncertainty. Students in other Gulf countries should follow their school's instructions and the FBISE notice that applies to them.
Results are announced for all candidates together. FBISE announced the 2026 SSC-I and SSC-II results on 29 July 2026, with pass rates of 59.77% and 91.33%, and the HSSC-I and HSSC-II results on 9 September 2026, with pass rates of 65.31% and 85.95%, APP reported. Gulf schools often do very well: Pakistan International School Qatar said all 249 of its SSC-II candidates passed in 2026, according to The Peninsula.
FBISE or O Level: which is better for a Gulf student?
Neither route is better for every student. FBISE suits families who expect to return to Pakistan, especially for medicine or engineering, because SSC and HSSC marks are used directly in Pakistani admissions alongside entry tests such as MDCAT. O Level and A Level suit families who may move again, or who are aiming for universities abroad, because Cambridge qualifications are recognised internationally.
Things to weigh:
- Where the student will go to university. For Pakistani medical and engineering colleges, FSc marks feed straight into the merit formula. For universities abroad, A Levels are more widely understood.
- How settled the family is. Cambridge exams can be taken in many countries, which helps if the family moves within the Gulf or elsewhere.
- The school. Many Pakistani schools in the Gulf offer both routes, so a switch is often possible between Class 8 and Class 9 without changing school.
We compare the two in more depth in O Level vs Matric and A Level vs FSc.
Do you need IBCC equivalence when you return to Pakistan?
Students returning with FBISE certificates do not need IBCC equivalence, because FBISE is a Pakistani board. Students with Cambridge O Level, IGCSE or A Level results do need an IBCC equivalence certificate for Pakistani admissions.
There is one rule Gulf families often miss. IBCC asks students who sit O Level in Pakistan for eight subjects, but students who studied and sat their exams abroad need only five: English, Mathematics and three electives, according to IBCC's rules for British qualifications. Our IBCC equivalence guide and free equivalence calculator explain the conversion.
What time are online classes from Pakistan in Gulf time?
Pakistan Standard Time is UTC+5, so Pakistan is one hour ahead of the UAE and Oman (UTC+4) and two hours ahead of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain (UTC+3). None of these countries uses daylight saving, so the gap stays the same all year.
| Country | Time difference from Pakistan | A 5pm class locally is… | Usual weekend |
|---|---|---|---|
| UAE | Pakistan is 1 hour ahead | 6pm in Pakistan | Saturday–Sunday |
| Oman | Pakistan is 1 hour ahead | 6pm in Pakistan | Friday–Saturday |
| Saudi Arabia | Pakistan is 2 hours ahead | 7pm in Pakistan | Friday–Saturday |
| Qatar | Pakistan is 2 hours ahead | 7pm in Pakistan | Friday–Saturday |
| Kuwait | Pakistan is 2 hours ahead | 7pm in Pakistan | Friday–Saturday |
| Bahrain | Pakistan is 2 hours ahead | 7pm in Pakistan | Friday–Saturday |
After-school lessons in the Gulf therefore fall in the early evening for tutors in Pakistan, which suits both sides. During Ramadan, families usually move lessons to after iftar.
How to choose an online tutor from Pakistan
Choose a tutor who has taught your child's exact board and paper pattern, because an excellent Cambridge teacher may not know the FBISE MCQ, short-question and long-question format, and the other way round. Then check these points:
- Named, qualified tutors. Ask who will teach your child, their degree and how many years they have taught that board.
- Gulf timings in writing. The class time should be confirmed in your local time, with a Ramadan plan.
- Fees in your currency. Prices should be clear in AED, SAR, QAR, OMR, KWD or BHD, with no hidden registration fees.
- Language. Lessons follow the English textbooks, but explanations in Urdu can help with difficult concepts.
- Parent visibility. Lessons should run on an official platform you can join, never through a tutor's personal number.
GradeUp International teaches FBISE Matric and FSc, Cambridge O Level and A Level, and IGCSE online to students across the Gulf, with named subject experts, fees in your currency and a free first class. Frequently asked questions
Can Pakistani students in Saudi Arabia or the UAE take FBISE exams?
Yes. Pakistani schools in the Gulf that are affiliated with the Federal Board prepare students for SSC and HSSC exams, and FBISE runs examination centres at overseas institutions. In 2026 FBISE published separate SSC date sheets and roll number slips for overseas centres in the UAE, Kuwait and Bahrain. Check the FBISE website for your country's notice.
Is online tuition from Pakistan good for students in the Gulf?
Online tuition from Pakistan works well for Gulf students because tutors teach FBISE and Cambridge papers every year, can explain in Urdu, and are only one or two hours ahead. Lessons after school in Riyadh, Doha or Dubai fall in the early evening in Pakistan. Choose a tutor who has taught your child's exact board and paper pattern.
Do FBISE students need IBCC equivalence when returning to Pakistan?
No. FBISE is a Pakistani board, so its SSC and HSSC certificates are used directly for admissions in Pakistan. Students who took Cambridge O Level, IGCSE or A Level abroad do need IBCC equivalence, and IBCC asks O Level students who studied abroad for five subjects: English, Mathematics and three electives.
When were FBISE results announced in 2026?
FBISE announced SSC-I and SSC-II results for 2026 on 29 July 2026, with pass rates of 59.77% and 91.33%, and HSSC-I and HSSC-II results on 9 September 2026, with pass rates of 65.31% and 85.95%, according to APP reports. Results are on the FBISE website, by SMS and in the gazette.
How much does online tuition cost for Pakistani students in the Gulf?
GradeUp International shows fees in AED, SAR, QAR, OMR, KWD and BHD on its pricing page, with one-to-one and small-group options and a free first class. Matric and O Level are priced at our core tier, FSc and A Level at the advanced tier. Compare the price per hour of teaching when you compare providers.
