Online Tutoring in Qatar: A Parent's Guide for 2026 (Costs, Rules and How to Choose)

By Published Last updated 9 min read

Key takeaways

For online tutoring in Qatar in 2026, parents should choose a tutor who has taught their child's exact board (Cambridge, Edexcel, IB or FBISE), teaches in Qatar time, works within Qatar's rules on private tutoring and publishes costs up front. Published one-to-one prices ranged from about QAR 50 to QAR 420 an hour in October 2026; ours start at QAR 110 per 60-minute class.

  • Match the syllabus code first (for example IGCSE 0580 or Edexcel 4MA1), then compare tutors on the same topic in a trial.
  • Qatar regulates private tutoring: since January 2026 licensed tutors carry Ministry ID cards for lessons at centres or in homes.
  • Private candidates for IGCSE and A Level in Qatar must be 18 or over, or have a Ministry approval letter.
  • Qatar has 21 IB World Schools, 17 offering the Diploma, and Pakistani schools in Doha prepare students for FBISE exams.
  • Online lessons avoid the evening drive across Doha and widen the choice of specialists.

How do you choose the best online tutor in Qatar?

The best online tutor for a student in Qatar is the one who has taught your child's exact board and syllabus, teaches at times that work in Arabia Standard Time, publishes fees and lets you try a class first. "Best" depends on the student: an IB Diploma student in Al Waab needs a different specialist from a Class 10 FBISE student or an IGCSE student resitting Maths.

Start with these five checks, in this order:

  1. Board and syllabus code. Find the code on your child's statement of entry or the school's subject list, such as Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580, Edexcel International GCSE 4MA1, IB Mathematics: analysis and approaches HL, or FBISE SSC Physics. Ask each tutor how many years they have taught that exact syllabus.
  2. Evidence of subject expertise. A named tutor profile with a degree, institution and years of experience is a minimum. Be cautious of ratings, student counts or "toppers" you cannot verify.
  3. Qatar timings. Qatar is on UTC+3 with no daylight saving. Ask for the class time in writing in Qatar time, and check Ramadan arrangements.
  4. Published fees. Prices in QAR, class length and what happens to missed classes should be clear before you pay.
  5. A trial class. Book a trial with two or three shortlisted tutors on the same topic and ask your child which explanation they could repeat back.

How much does an online tutor cost in Qatar?

Published one-to-one prices from tutoring providers serving Qatar ranged from about QAR 50 to QAR 420 an hour when we checked on 21 October 2026. Specialist IGCSE, A Level and IB tutoring usually sits towards the upper half of that range, and home tutors who travel across Doha typically charge more than online tutors.

When you compare quotes, work out the price per hour of teaching, and ask about registration fees, minimum packages and refunds. A cheap first hour can hide an expensive monthly commitment. Our 2026 tuition cost guide compares prices in Pakistan, the UAE and the UK the same way.

Qatar regulates private tutoring through the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, which licenses tutoring centres and the teachers who work in them. In January 2026 the Ministry issued its first official ID cards for licensed private tutoring teachers, to be shown during lessons at licensed centres or in homes, The Peninsula reported. Of 272 teachers interviewed in that round, 182 were approved.

The published reports describe in-person tutoring at centres and in homes. They do not say how the rules apply to live online lessons from tutors based outside Qatar. If you plan to hire a tutor who will come to your home in Qatar, ask to see their Ministry ID card. If you have questions about online lessons, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education is the authority to ask.

GradeUp International teaches online only, from Pakistan, and never sends tutors to homes in Qatar.

Which curricula do students in Qatar need tutors for?

Students in Qatar mostly need tutors for British (IGCSE and A Level), IB, American (AP and SAT) or Pakistani (FBISE) curricula, because most expatriate children attend private schools that teach one of these. Government schools follow Qatar's national curriculum.

Pakistani families are well served by online tutors in Pakistan, who teach the FBISE paper pattern every year and can explain in Urdu. Pakistan International School Qatar, for example, reported that all 249 of its SSC-II candidates passed in 2026, according to The Peninsula.

Can students in Qatar sit exams as private candidates?

Yes, but only from age 18 unless the Ministry approves. The British Council in Qatar registers private candidates for Cambridge, Edexcel and OxfordAQA exams, and says candidates must be 18 or over, in line with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. A minor needs an approval letter from the Ministry, submitted at registration, or the application is not processed.

The British Council also says that if a candidate pays but cannot provide the eligibility documents, it deducts a 25% administrative fee from the refund. Sort out the paperwork before paying. Students at schools that are exam centres sit their exams through the school, and there is no private-candidate route at all for the IB Diploma.

Online or home tutor in Qatar?

For most secondary students in Qatar, a well-matched online tutor works as well as a home tutor, and it removes the evening drive across Doha's ring roads. Online lessons also widen the choice: a student in Al Wakrah or Lusail can learn from the same IB or FBISE specialist as a student in West Bay.

A home tutor makes more sense for younger children who need someone in the room, or for students who cannot concentrate on a screen. If you choose a home tutor, Qatar's licensing rules apply, so ask for the tutor's Ministry ID card. Our comparison of online tuition vs home tuition covers the trade-offs in more detail.

Questions to ask before you pay

Ask every tutor or academy the same questions, in writing, so you can compare the answers:

  • Which board and syllabus codes have you taught, and for how many years?
  • Who exactly will teach my child, and can I see their profile?
  • What time will classes be in Qatar time, and what happens in Ramadan?
  • What are the fees in QAR, the class length and the policy for missed classes?
  • How will you report progress to me, and can I join lessons?
  • Which platform do you teach on, and will all contact go through it rather than a personal number?

At GradeUp International, every class is taught by a named subject expert, fees are published in QAR, parents can join any lesson, and the first class is free. See online tutors in Qatar for class times and fees.

Qatar regulates private tutoring. The Ministry of Education and Higher Education licenses tutoring centres and, from January 2026, issues ID cards to licensed private tutors, to be shown during lessons at centres or in homes, according to The Peninsula.
