Online Tutoring in Oman: A Parent's Guide for 2026 (Costs, Exams and How to Choose)

By Published Last updated 7 min read

Key takeaways

For online tutoring in Oman in 2026, parents should choose a tutor who has taught their child's exact board (Cambridge, Edexcel, IB or FBISE), teaches in Gulf Standard Time and publishes fees up front. TutorChase quotes a market range of OMR 20 to 40 an hour for IGCSE; ours start at OMR 11.5 per 60-minute class.

  • Private candidates register with the British Council in Oman online, then pay at its office, for the May/June and October/November series.
  • Match the board and syllabus code first, such as Cambridge 0580 or Edexcel 4MA1, then compare two or three tutors in trial classes.
  • The IB lists 11 IB World Schools in Oman, nine of them offering the Diploma Programme.
  • Pakistan School Muscat and its branches are affiliated with FBISE and also teach Cambridge and Edexcel.
  • Online lessons give families in Sohar, Nizwa and Salalah the same tutors as families in Muscat.

How do you choose the best online tutor in Oman?

The best online tutor for a student in Oman is the one who has taught your child's exact board and syllabus, teaches at times that work in Gulf Standard Time, publishes fees in OMR and lets you try a class first. Oman's international and Pakistani schools teach different courses, so "best" depends on the board: a Muscat IB student and a Suwaiq FBISE student need very different tutors.

Five checks, in order:

  1. Board and syllabus code. Find it on the school's subject list or the statement of entry, such as Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580, Edexcel International GCSE 4MA1, IB Mathematics: analysis and approaches HL, or FBISE SSC Physics.
  2. Evidence of expertise. Look for a named tutor profile with a degree, institution and years teaching that syllabus. Be cautious of ratings or results you cannot verify.
  3. Oman timings. Oman stays on UTC+4 all year. Ask for the class time in writing, and check Ramadan arrangements.
  4. Published fees and policies. Price in OMR, class length, missed-class rules and any registration fee.
  5. A trial class. Book trials with two or three tutors on the same topic, then ask your child which explanation they could repeat.

Our checklist for choosing an online O Level or A Level tutor goes into each step.

Pakistan is one hour ahead of Oman, so a 5pm class in Muscat is 6pm for a tutor in Pakistan. Pakistani families should also read our guide to online tuition for Pakistani students in the Gulf.

How do private candidates register for exams in Oman?

Private candidates in Oman register with the British Council for Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel exams. You register online and then pay at the British Council office, and private entries are accepted for the May/June and October/November series.

Check current deadlines and fees on its website before you plan revision around a series. Science subjects can be harder to enter privately because some papers include practical work, so read the syllabus first. The IB Diploma has no private route: students must be enrolled at an authorised IB World School.

Online or home tutor in Muscat?

For most secondary students, a well-matched online tutor works as well as a home tutor, avoids another trip after school, and widens the choice of specialists beyond whoever lives nearby. That matters most for families in Sohar, Nizwa or Salalah, who may find specialist secondary tutors harder to reach locally. A home tutor can suit younger children who need someone in the room. Our comparison of online tuition vs home tuition covers the trade-offs.

GradeUp International teaches online only, from Pakistan, and never sends tutors to homes in Oman.

Questions to ask before you pay

Ask every tutor or academy the same questions, in writing:

  • Which board and syllabus codes have you taught, and for how many years?
  • Who exactly will teach my child, and can I see their profile?
  • What time will classes be in Oman time, and what happens in Ramadan?
  • What are the fees in OMR, the class length and the policy for missed classes?
  • How will you report progress, and can I join lessons?
  • Which platform do you teach on, and will all contact go through it rather than a personal number?

At GradeUp International, every class is taught by a named subject expert, fees are published in OMR, parents can join any lesson, and the first class is free. See online tutors in Oman for class times and fees, or online tutors in Muscat for local details.

Frequently asked questions

Who are the best online tutors in Oman?

The best online tutors for students in Oman are specialists in your child's exact board and syllabus, such as Cambridge IGCSE, Edexcel International A Level, the IB Diploma or the Pakistani FBISE, who teach in Gulf Standard Time, publish their fees in OMR and offer a trial class before you commit.

How much does an online tutor cost per hour in Oman?

TutorChase quotes a market range of OMR 20 to 40 an hour for IGCSE tutoring in Oman and charges from OMR 24, and The Profs lists £60 an hour online for Muscat. GradeUp International charges OMR 11.5 for IGCSE and OMR 14.5 for A Level or the IB Diploma, per 60-minute class. Prices checked on 1 November 2026.

Can my child sit IGCSE or A Level exams privately in Oman?

Yes. The British Council in Oman registers private candidates for Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel exams in the May/June and October/November series. You register online and then pay at the British Council office. Check its website early for current deadlines and fees, because they change each series.

Can Pakistani students in Oman get FBISE tutoring online?

Yes. Pakistan School Muscat and its branches, such as Pakistan School Suwaiq, are affiliated with FBISE, and online tutors in Pakistan can teach the same Federal Board syllabus and explain in Urdu. Pakistan is only one hour ahead of Oman, so after-school classes are practical.

Is online tutoring as good as a home tutor in Muscat?

For most secondary students, a well-matched online tutor works as well as a home tutor, avoids extra travel after school and widens the choice of specialists, particularly outside Muscat. A home tutor can suit younger children who need someone in the room. Either way, book a trial first.
