Which A Level boards do schools in Oman use?

  • Cambridge International AS & A Level

Graded A* to E at A Level and a to e at AS. A student in Oman can take AS in Year 12 and finish in Year 13, or sit everything at the end. The A2 year is a real step up in Maths and the sciences, so tutoring often starts in the summer before it.

  • Pearson Edexcel International A Level (IAL)

A modular qualification with unit exams, so students can bank units and resit individual papers in later series. A school can use different boards for different subjects, so confirm the board for each one.

When are A Level exams for students in Oman?

Full calendar by board on our exam dates page.
SessionWhat applies in Oman
May/June seriesThe main series for schools in Oman. Cambridge AS & A Level results for the June series come out in August; June 2026 results were released on 11 August 2026.
October/November seriesUsed for resits and by private candidates, and the British Council in Oman accepts private entries for it. Cambridge AS & A Level results for November 2026 are due on 7 January 2027.
Pearson Edexcel International A LevelUnit exams run in several series a year, including January, May/June and October. Ask your school or the British Council in Oman which units are open before you plan a resit.

Where do students in Oman sit A Level exams?

Most A Level students in Oman sit exams at their own school, so confirm entries, practical endorsements and resits with the exams officer at the start of the year.

Private candidates register online with the British Council in Oman for Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel exams and then pay at its office. Private entries are accepted for the May/June and October/November series.

Some A Level science papers include practical components, and these can be harder to enter privately. Check the syllabus and the British Council's current deadlines and fees before you register.

Can I take A Levels as a private candidate in Oman?

Yes. The British Council in Oman registers private candidates for AS and A Level exams in the May/June and October/November series. You register online and then pay at the British Council office.

Pick subjects carefully, because papers with practical work can be difficult to enter privately. A tutor can help you plan a written route and a realistic timetable.

Can students outside Muscat get specialist A Level tutors?

Yes. Lessons are live online, so a student in Sohar, Nizwa or Salalah can work with a specialist in Further Mathematics or an A2 science, which may be harder to find locally.

We match by board and syllabus code rather than by subject name, because Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology are often required for engineering and medicine and the exact papers matter.

Which A Level subjects do we teach students in Oman?

Each subject page lists the syllabus codes, papers and topics we cover.

What times are online A Level classes in Oman?

Families outside Muscat, in cities such as Sohar, Nizwa or Salalah, may find specialist A Level tutors harder to reach locally. Online lessons remove that limit.

Classes run in Gulf Standard Time, usually between about 3pm and 9pm on school days and from morning to early evening on Fridays and Saturdays. Pakistan is one hour ahead, so a 5pm class in Muscat is 6pm for the tutor.

Private schools in Oman are licensed by the Ministry of Education. We teach online only and never send tutors to homes.
