Facts last verified:
Which A Level boards do schools in Qatar use?
Cambridge International AS & A Level
Graded A* to E at A Level and a to e at AS. Students can take AS in Year 12 and complete the A Level in Year 13, or sit everything at the end. Cambridge listed Qatar among the countries where AS & A Level grades for June 2026 were awarded through a portfolio of evidence.
Pearson Edexcel International A Level (IAL)
A modular qualification with unit exams, so students can bank units and resit individual papers in later series. Some British-curriculum schools in Qatar use Edexcel for Maths and the sciences. Unit codes and paper styles differ from Cambridge, so we match tutors to the board.
When are A Level exams for students in Qatar?
| Session | What applies in Qatar |
|---|---|
| Cambridge June series | The main series for schools in Qatar. For June 2026, Cambridge awarded AS & A Level grades in Qatar through a portfolio of evidence, and results were released on 11 August 2026. |
| Cambridge November series | Used for resits and by private candidates. The British Council in Qatar published a Cambridge October/November 2026 timetable for private candidates, and Cambridge AS & A Level results for November 2026 are due on 7 January 2027. |
| Pearson Edexcel International A Level | Unit exams run in several series a year, including January, May/June and October. Check with your school or the British Council which Edexcel series and units are open in Qatar before planning resits. |
Where do students in Qatar sit A Level exams?
Most A Level students in Qatar sit exams at their own school. Confirm AS and A Level entries, practical endorsements where relevant, and any resits with the school's exams officer at the start of each year.
Private candidates register online with the British Council in Qatar for Cambridge, Edexcel or OxfordAQA exams. The British Council says candidates must be 18 or over, in line with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, and that minors need a Ministry approval letter submitted at registration.
Some A Level science papers include practical components, and not every centre offers them to private candidates. Check the syllabus and the British Council's timetable for your subject before you register.
How were June 2026 A Level exams handled in Qatar?
Cambridge International confirmed that, for the June 2026 series, AS & A Level grades for candidates in Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and the UAE would be awarded through a portfolio of evidence instead of written exams. AS & A Level results were released on 11 August 2026.
For students in Year 12 and Year 13 now, school assessments and mocks carry real weight as evidence, and they also shape predicted grades for university applications. We plan tutoring around each school's mock dates, as well as full past-paper practice for the next written series.
Which A Level subjects do students in Qatar ask us for most?
Mathematics (Cambridge 9709 or Edexcel International A Level), Physics, Chemistry and Biology are the most requested, because they are the hardest step up from IGCSE and the subjects most often required for engineering and medicine. Economics, Business and Accounting are popular for business and finance degrees.
Each of our A Level tutors teaches a small number of subjects they have taught for years, and we match by board and syllabus, not just subject. Meet our experts on the tutors page.
