  • Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Graded 9 to 1, with Foundation and Higher tiers in subjects such as Mathematics A (4MA1). Where do students in Qatar sit IGCSE exams?

Most IGCSE students in Qatar sit exams at their own school, which enters them for each series. Families should confirm entries, tiers (Core or Extended, Foundation or Higher) and coursework deadlines with the school's exams officer early in Year 11.

Private candidates register online with the British Council in Qatar for Cambridge, Edexcel or OxfordAQA exams and then pay at the British Council. The British Council says candidates registering for school exams must be 18 or over, in line with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, and that a minor needs an approval letter from the Ministry before registering.

The British Council states that registrations without the required eligibility documents are not processed, and that a 25% administrative fee is deducted from refunds where a candidate pays but cannot provide them. Read its current guidance before you pay.

How were June 2026 IGCSE exams handled in Qatar?

Cambridge International confirmed that, for the June 2026 series, Cambridge IGCSE, O Level and AS & A Level grades for candidates in Qatar, as well as Bahrain, Kuwait and the UAE, would be awarded through a portfolio of evidence instead of written exams. IGCSE and O Level results were released on 18 August 2026.

For students now in Year 10 and Year 11, the practical lesson is that steady classwork, mock exams and coursework count. Whatever happens to a future exam series, the evidence a school holds on each student matters, so we help students do well in school assessments as well as past papers.

Can my child take IGCSE as a private candidate in Qatar?

Yes, but the rules in Qatar are stricter than in many countries. The British Council in Qatar says private candidates for school exams must be 18 or over, and that a younger candidate needs an approval letter from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, submitted at registration.

If your child is under 18 and not at a school that enters them, speak to the Ministry and the British Council before planning a private entry. Our tutors can prepare a student for any series once the entry route is confirmed.

Is online IGCSE tutoring allowed in Qatar?

Qatar regulates private tutoring. In January 2026 the Ministry of Education and Higher Education issued its first official ID cards for licensed private tutoring teachers, to be shown during lessons at licensed centres or in homes, The Peninsula reported. The published reports describe in-person tutoring and do not address online lessons from tutors outside Qatar.

We teach live online classes from outside Qatar and never send tutors to homes. If you have questions about the rules for your family, check with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
